Core Design: The Favorite and Long Shot share this low RG (2.48), fast-revving core. The 4” flaring symmetric core has a Diff of .040, which will hide some release errors while providing fast, smooth revs. |
Coverstock: The ball’s black solid reactive cover is sanded with a 2000-grit Abralon. Its strength is rated at S57, which is above average, especially at this price point. Response time off dry was moderately slow, yet oil traction was above average. |
Manufacturer’s Intent: “We wanted to create a ball that would fit into almost any bowler’s bag at an affordable price,” said 900 Global’s Eric Thomas. “We increased the overall hook potential for this price point with a coverstock of S57. Bowlers will find astrong solid that starts in the mid-lane, but has plenty of continuation to finish aggressively and predictably downlane.” |
Test Results: The Favorite is a benchmark type arcing ball that will rarely fool the individual throwing it. Its aggressive cover and moderately strong core rewards bowlers with a good mid-lane reading and a controlled move downlane. It reminded me of a smoother motioning Break (October 2007 BJI), but with a touch more total hook. Carry power was especially good on fresh THS and wet/dry side-to-side ratios. Its strong mid-lane will suit many speed-dominant players providing there’s no excessive midlane oil. Polishing the surface increased the length two feet or so, and increased its angularity in the backend. The Favorite will tell you rather quickly if a stronger or weaker nugget is needed, thus making it an important ball in anyone’s arsenal. |
When to Use: This ball has medium hook potential, medium breakpoint angularity coupled with control and readability. Bowlers using a limited arsenal could choose the Favorite and Long Shot and stand a fighting chance on 90% of the conditions a typical league bowler would encounter. The Favorite will match up best on medium to medium-heavy oil volumes, as well as longer patterns. The pearlized counterpart, Long Shot, would match up when added length and pop are warranted. |
