Long Shot

Core Design: Sharing the Favorite’s asymmetric core, the Long Shot has plenty of engine under the hood. Its 2.48 RG revs quickly and its .040 Diff provides enough track flare for most medium conditions.

Coverstock: The Long Shot’s pearlized cover is called S55. Coloring is a medley of ocean blue and silvery pearls. The surface is factory polished in a high gloss. Oil traction is limited but response time off dry is quick and strong.

Manufacturer’s Intent: ”The Long Shot is the perfect complement to the Favorite once the lanes break down,” said Eric Thomas, 900 Global’s brand manager. “It utilizes the same core shape and numbers as the Favorite, just wrapped in a gorgeous blue with silver pearl S55 cover. This strong back-ending beauty is enough to stand alone, or can be your bail-out when your Favorite ball starts hooking a little too much. As the lanes start transitioning, the Long Shot will shine, saving its best for the final stretch.”

Test Results: The Long Shot is an aggressive pearl designed for medium volumes and medium oil distances, all at a modest price point. Hitting power was very impressive as long as there was a friction area to throw at. Oil carrydown caused some downlane wiggle, but a light Scotch Brite scuffing all but eliminated this nuisance. This is definitely a swing it-and-bring it ball reaction shape that many bowlers love to see. Fact is, both the Favorite and Long Shot are such high performance balls while also being price friendly.

When to Use: Players looking to open up any light to medium volume house shot should give the Long Shot serious consideration. 900 Global has been producing some good light-to-medium oil pearls, many of which are available at lower price points. The Long Shot performed great with factory finish and/or sanding from 1000 to 4000 grits. Our favorite layouts were 4 to 5” pins both above and below the fingers. Weight holes near P3 and P4 will enhance angularity by increasing the ball’s differential numbers.
