Bowling This Month Review: Published with Permission from BTM Comments: 900 Global gives us a new weight block in the Profit. The cover is a tweaked pearl version of their highly successful S70 veneer. The combination of the two gives the Profit a stronger overall reaction than we have seen in previous pearls from 900 Global. The Profit revs easily in the midlane and once it turns the corner there is no stopping it. All three testers liked the Profit the best on our medium test pattern. It gave us a look on this pattern similar to the Break Point Pearl, but with more continuation at the back end. The oily pattern offered a moderate look for our testers with the Cranker having the best reaction due to his higher rev rate. Surface adjustments will be needed for those who have trouble getting their ball to face the pocket. Those bowling on drier conditions will want to look into longer pin-to-PAP layouts, which should allow the Profit to get further down the lane before it makes it move to the pocket. Higher rev rates will most likely have to keep this ball in the bag when it comes to fresh dry patterns but will have some success on broken down dry conditions. Those with lower rev rates will be okay as long as they are able to move deeper on the lane. On our fresh sport patterns the Profit offered easy length due to the polished pearl cover and it gave the recovery needed in the back end of the lane. Stroker was able to square up what is usually OB but was able to use it as hold as the Profit created traction in the oil. As the testers broke down the pattern, the reaction from the Profit got even better. Out of the box, we recommend the Profit got broken-down to medium-oily sport patterns or fresh medium to medium-dry sport patterns. |

Summary |
Strengths: This formulation of the S70 cover is the Profit’s biggest asset. The pearlized finish stores energy without over-skidding in the middle section of the lane. Pearls that are not sensitive to oil are a major benefit to any player’s arsenal. |
Weakness: Long and oily patters will cause trouble for those who are rev challenged, while fresh short patterns will cause this ball to check up for those with higher rev rates. Surface adjustment will help on the oily stuff but even weak layouts won’t tame this ball down enough for higher rev rates on shorter patterns. |
Overall: This new addition to 900 Global’s upper mid-performance line offers a strong move in the midlane with a strong movement in the back end and plenty of energy through the pins. The Profit offers more continuation after the breakpoint compared to the Breakpoint Pearl and Bounty Hunter Pearl. |

Core Design: The asymmetric core of the900 Global Profit has a medium-level RG of 2.50 with a .043 Diff and .013 intermediate rating. This core revs easily and will produce upwards of 5” of track flare with stronger layouts of 3 and 4” pin distances. |
Coverstock: The Profit’s newly formulated pearl S70 cover will handle oil more efficiently than earlier versions. The highly-polished surface emerald green will get some looks at the lanes. Response time off dry is quick, while traction in oil is slightly above average for a polished pearl. |
Manufacturer’s Intent: 900 Global’s Brand Manager, Eric Thomas, had this to say about the ball: “The Profit features an all-new core design and a new formulation of S70 pearl coverstock. We wanted to update our lineup, yet not stray too far from our previous successes with the Break line. The core numbers are right in line [with that philosophy], and this new blend of S70 pearl really gives bowlers a clean motion up front and tremendous rip downlane.” |
Test Results: The S70 pearl cover matches up well with the medium strength core. Bowlers will see added length compared to a similarly-drilled Bounty Hunter Pearl or Breakpoint Pearl. The overall hook motion was a tad more subdued for our average testers, yet our higher rev guy saw more flip. I would still classify the breakpoint shape as a hard arc with higher and/or stronger pins. Lower and tamer layouts will help round out the breakpoint for those looking for smoother moves in the final 20 feet. |
When to Use: Our best looks were on most wood surfaces, or lighter to medium oil volumes on synthetics. Since the Profit had such easy length, we did not like our looks on 43’ or longer patterns, or those with heavier volumes. The Profit joins what we view as an impressive line of performance pearls in the 900 Global stable. The Profit also responded well to surface sandings all the way down to 360 Abralon, which increases its RA (roughness) value tenfold from its factory shine |
